Murder Shocks College Community

A college student’s body was discovered near Vinnie’s Italian Basement restaurant near campus late Thursday morning. Eye witnesses describe the scene as “something out of a horror movie.” Police have ruled the death a homicide, but have refrained from additional details.

“The body of Terrance Lyons, a Junior at Indiana University, was discovered this morning near Vinnie’s restraint,” Police Chief Gerald Hawkins stated at this morning’s press conference. “The death has been ruled a homicide and our team of investigators are actively pursuing multiple leads.”

When pressed about rumors of “mutilations” and “satanic carvings on the flesh” Chief Hawkins declined to comment and reiterated that, “Investigators are pursuing every lead.”

Chief Hawkins furthered his comments stating, “We don’t see many murders around here and rumors spread like cancer. The department would appreciate everyone’s cooperation in keeping such speculation contained so we can do our jobs. Let’s not sensationalize this and create any unnecessary panic.”

Despite the department’s request for containment, Alice Lebower, the woman who discovered the body during a morning jog, has described her experience as “horrifying” and “traumatic.”

“Things that this don’t happen around here. These are good kids. God-fearing kids. I know they may get a little rowdy sometimes, but what they did to him…his body…”

Ms. Lebower was escorted from the scene for further interrogation before she was able to comment further.

No date has been scheduled for funeral services, but a vigil is planned for 8:00pm tonight at St. Margaret’s Chapel on campus. Students, faculty, and Alpha Sigma Phi brothers from across the state are expected to gather and light candles in Terrance’s memory.

Terrance was an Economics major, an active participant in multiple clubs, and the starting hooker for the Men’s Rugby team.
